The Muny in 1923

Construction Begins on the Muny: April 16, 1917

Construction began on a permanent theater for the Municipal Opera in Forest Park, St. Louis. It was completed in just 49 days.

On this day the people who had been presenting outdoor musicals and operas in St. Louis voted to make the productions permanent and the St. Louis Municipal Opera (the MUNY) was born.
