Meramec Farm Cabins and Trail Rides
Meramec Farm Offers Firsthand Farm Experience
Odds are the first thing you’ll see when you pull up the drive at Meramec Farm Cabins and Trail Riding Vacations is the Missouri Century Farm sign. Owner Carol Springer is proud of the fact the farm is among Missouri’s oldest. Sit Carol down, and she’ll tell you about her ancestor William Harrison, who came to Missouri from Kentucky, driving his cattle before him. It’s her eagerness to open her home and arms to strangers looking for a peaceful place to take a break from life that makes the experience so enjoyable.
Today, 100 head of cattle dot the pastures of the fully operational beef cattle and hay ranch, and Meramec Farm prides itself on its down-home attitude.
“We’re totally non-commercial,” Carol says, referring to the fact that the farm doesn’t boast a gift boutique or gimmicky T-shirts. “There’s no junk food, no television.”
Cabins constructed of local timber provide lodging for guests on the farm. Visitors can swim from the banks of the river and spelunk in the local caves in the summer, hike and bike in the fall, ice skate and cross-country ski in the winter, and ride horses year-round.
Trail rides feature three breeds of gaited horses—the Missouri Foxtrotter, the Tennessee Walker, and the Peruvian Paso—on rides of varying lengths. Personal horses are always welcome on these tours, and prices can be adjusted accordingly. Weather can be unpredictable, so outings are dependent on the weather.
