The Mississippi River, America’s first highway, was crucial for Native Americans, the early French voyagers, settlers, African-Americans seeking freedom, and to many more. This scenic road offers vistas of the river and stops at historic sites and cultural destinations in the charming river towns and big cities on the great river’s banks. You can travel the road from Minnesota to New Orleans. The Missouri portion will take about an hour, or about six hours to enjoy the fun along the way. Limestone bluffs provide stunning views, and the artist colonies and antiques dealers in Clarksville and Louisiana also offer spectacular work to admire.
The byway runs along Missouri 79 between Clarksville and Louisiana.
