Missourian James H. Howard got separated from his fighter group and, all alone, attacked a German flight of thirty planes. He shot down six. He had earlier recorded six kills while serving with the "Flying Tigers" in Asia. more

Black aviator, Wendell Pruitt, was honored in his home town of St. Louis on this day. He won the Distinguished Flying Cross for shooting down three German planes, destroying 70 on the ground and helping to sink a German destroyer. more
