From 1851 to the mid-1860s, a remarkable migration took place in America. Nearly 350,000 Americans sold their homes and farms to finance the long and arduous journey West. In Going Along the Emigrant Trails published by Farcountry Press for children ages 8 to 12, author Barbara Fifer describes who these travelers were, where they traveled, and what their lives were like along the way. Complete with historical photographs, color illustrations, maps, and journal excerpts from actual emigrants, the book tells the story of this remarkable migration from the eastern United States to Oregon country or California. Bits of trivia scattered throughout the book make it fun and educational for kids. As they read through the book, children can also track the covered wagon at the bottom of each page as it makes its way across the West. 8.5” x 11”, 48 pages, paperback.
