Falling Spring Mill in Missouri's Mark Twain National Forest is a haunting remnant of what is now a ghost town hidden in the remotes of Oregon, Co. The village that once thrived here depended on this historic under-shot, spring-powered grist mill to grind corn and wheat for the region.
From the distinct soybean field, looking toward the lake and the harvested grain fields, the windmill is barely visible on the dam of the lake. The white- wrapped round bales of alfalfa can be seen in the distance.
A close view of the house at Taumunn Farm. The fall leaves frame the white house and the green shutters enhance the natural feeling of the entire property.
The 1900 hay loft barn towers across from the farmhouse. The barn currently houses an antique store. The entire left side of the barn is an overhang which protects farm equipment from the winter snow and the spring storms, so familiar to Missouri homesteads.
View of the pond with shadow of tractor shed visible to the left. Fescue and alfalfa are harvested from the fields in the distance. A faint rainbow touches the sky and adds to its beauty, while a wooden birdhouse awaits a long, cold winter to come.
Front of tractor shed with small door to the left. The shed is in the front field and adjacent to the pond. The brilliant colors of the shed fight the battle of age and weather.
Tree lined driveway as viewed from the house. The gravel drive is lined with wooden fences and old wagon wheels. The fall trees decorate the left side of the drive, while the right side has open fields of crop and livestock (belonging to neighboring farms).
The rear view of the hay loft barn. The bright red barn has been on the farm since the early 1900's. The barn has been restored and is currently used as an antique store. The barn also houses equipment and the front side of the barn has an impressive over hang for equipment storage.
A vintage maple tree, spins its branches toward the skies, the first signs of fall visible in the leaves. The tree is located adjacent to the large hay loft barn and the vegetable garden.
The "keeping room" cabin as viewed from outside the wall surrounding a stone camp fire ring. Visible behind the cabin is a large 3 bay pole barn. Rustic front porch chairs welcome anyone into the all log structure to prepare or eat a meal by the all wood table and chairs inside.
The fire ring for food and fellowship; the surrounding rock wall was constructed by the owner of Tamunn Farm. The photo was taken from the porch of the "keeping room cabin".
A view of the approach to the house at Tamunn Farm. The long, winding driveway offers just enough time to take a step back in time. It is lined with a split rail fence.
The driveway going down from Highway 94, on the county line between St. Charles and Warren Counties. The driveway has fields with cattle on the right and wooded areas on the left; the distance is about 2 football fields.
Detail of a small door on the tractor shed at Tamunn Farm. The detail is a small representation of all of the textures available at this location. The wind, rain, and snow have added character to all of its structures here, yet the buildings are all very well maintained. The beauty of these textures can not be created overnight.
The last roses of summer, in front of the garden shed cabin, which was moved from Marthasville and restored in 2006. Looking into the interior which has one art glass window.
The 2 story structure began as a log cabin, circa 1850, and was added on to and upgraded several times until it was finished by 1910. The metal roof is the original one of that period.
Along the driveway which has a split rail fence on both sides for most of the driveway approaching the house. The tractor shed is in the front field of the house, some distance away. The fallen leaves paint a picture of fall.
Another view of the small pond, with tractor shed very visible, and the white 2 story house of Tamunn Farm&Home, is peeking through the fall trees.
Harvesting of the soybean field is always an indicator of the fall season at Tamunn Farm. The tall tree was planted to mark the property line. The tree also tells its own story of the upcoming winter.
A non-functioning privy, adjacent to the hay loft barn, moved to the farm in 1987 as a birthday gift, from a husband with a keen sense of humor to a receptive wife.
Interior of the "keeping room" cabin with hand-crafted furniture, dried vegetables, wooden bowls, and baskets. The cabin was originally a smoke house, moved from near Jefferson City, restored in 2002 and is used for outdoor eating.
A view from the dam of our upper pond, looking down toward the lower pond. In the distance tractor shed in the distance. Sycamore trees encircle the pond.
Long view from porch of dog trot log cabin, looking toward harvested clover crop with soybeans in the distance.Tamunn Farm in St. Charles County.
Another view of the pond; to the right is shed built in 1911,now used for tool storage. The big sycamore tree is a favorite; also visible is 75 year old ash that died and was taken down professionally.
View from the left of "dog trot" log structure, circa 1850, with the long porch spanning two the 2 joined cabins. In the background is 2 story hay loft barn, circa 1900, restored and in use today.
Small lake showing soybean field in upper portion and part of man made dam, which has a pond to the left . Also visible is a small dock and a windmill for aerating the lake.
Interior of "dog trot" log structure, circa 1850, which we call "The Lincoln Bedroom" because of large painting. It has some period furnishings as shown.
Front view of a "dog trot" log structure circa 1850, moved from near Jefferson City and restored on our farm in St.Charles County in 2000.
