Each lamp shade made by Joanna Helphrey is unique. She has been drying and decorating gourds since 2007. She began by making small vases and bowls, but after seeing larger gourds at a show, she had the idea of making lamp shades. Joanna designs using a miniature jigsaw, wood stains and dyes, and other artistic additions such as wood burning, engraving, and stained glass. Recently, she has begun carving details into her creations. She is a member of Best of Missouri Hands and a featured crafter at the Silver Dollar City Harvest Festival.
