November 23, 1791: Philanthropist John O’Fallon was born on this day. He established the O’Fallon Institute, which is now Washington University. He built and donated new buildings to St. Louis University. He also started and served as the first president for three important railroads. Many things, including the city of O’Fallon, are named for him.
