June 8, 1982: Satchel Paige died in Kansas City on this date. The legendary ball player played for a number of Missouri teams during his career, including the Negro League teams, the Kansas City Travelers and the Kansas City Monarchs, one of the greatest baseball teams of all time. He also played for the Major League teams the St. Louis Browns and the Kansas City Athletics. At the the time of his death, he was fifty-nine and was still playing for the KC Athletics.
