June 28, 1969: Once again, Missouri weather brought about calamity. A violent thunderstorm ripped the riverboat Becky Thatcher from her moorings--with 100 people on board. The replica of the Santa Maria (from the 1964 world's fair) was also ripped loose. The Becky Thatcher snagged on a Monsanto dock and the passengers were rescued, but the Santa Maria was badly damaged when it finally ran aground.
