Rieger Armory in Kirksville
July 31, 1951: Local Kirksville hero Colonel James E. Rieger died in Kirksville. Rieger received higher education from what is now Truman State University, as well as a law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. For his heroics in World War I during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the military commander was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross as well as the Croix de Guerre from France.
