Unfinished Arch St. Louis Gateway Jefferson Expansion Memorial Incomplete
July 14, 1964: Protesting the fact that no black workers or contractors were hired to construct the Jefferson National Expansion memorial, two protesters—Percy Green II, an black employee of McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing), and Richard Daly, a white college student—climbed the framework of the unfinished Gateway Arch.
