World's Fair Map
August 20, 1902: The first birth and the first death occurred on the World’s Fair Grounds on this day. Louisiana Purchase O’Leary was born to Mr. and Mrs. Larry O’Leary. The baby lived for nearly a hundred years. Her father was a construction worker at the Fair. A few hours later a rigger, Alfred Willis died when a sledgehammer fell 75 feet and struck him on the head.
