August 11, 1807: David Rice Atchison was born in Kentucky. Atchison, who went on to live in Liberty and Platt City, was a “Border Ruffian,” lawyer, soldier, US Senator from Missouri, and acting US President for one day. He is largely responsible for the Transcontinental Railway going through Missouri and Kansas.
