One Voice is a live and virtual choral concert benefiting The Angel Band Project’s music therapy programs for the survivors of sexual abuse and violence as well as the new Teresa Butz Music Therapy scholarship fund at Maryville University. Presented by The Angel Band Project and Maryville University, One Voice premieres at the Edward Jones Auditorium in Des Peres.
This unique live musical performance brings together sexual and domestic abuse survivors from around the country with St. Louis choral groups and musicians. Throughout the summer and fall, The Angel Band Project is filming more than 15 survivors of sexual and domestic violence, their families and professionals in the field of sexual violence prevention, education and crisis counseling as they each sing one song. Their songs will be screened simultaneously as live performers accompany them. Photos from the One Voice recording sessions are available through Flickr.
Scott Schoonover, renowned artistic director and conductor of the Union Avenue Opera and the Missouri Women’s Choir, will be directing this event. The concert will include approximately 50 live performers on stage comprised of vocalists from the Missouri Women’s Choir, the St. Louis Women’s Hope Chorale, Maryville University’s student a cappella choir Notorious, Union Avenue Christian Church Choir, and other local choral groups. Accompanying the choirs will be musicians from ensembles in the St. Louis area.
