The Foundry Art Centre will open three new exhibitions on Friday, May 6, 2016 with a free reception that evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In Gallery I and II, Form and Function examines the principle of “form follows function,” meaning that the form art takes should be based upon its intent and purpose. Artwork that supports, explores, and challenges this principle will be on display through Friday, June 17, 2016. Form and Function was juried by Arizona artist and instructor Damon McIntyre. A gallery talk will be given by the Foundry Art Centre’s Executive Director and Exhibitions Manager, Melissa Whitwam, at 5:30 p.m. on May 6, before the reception begins.
Alongside Form and Function, a group exhibition of award winners from Fiber Fever (2014) will be on display in Gallery III, featuring artists Andrea Alonge, Lauren Turk, and Amy Keefer. Yidan Guo’s dreamy watercolor and Chinese silk paintings will be on display in the Ameristar Gallery as part of the Emerging Artist series.
Enjoy food and drinks while chatting with Form and Function’s participating artists at the opening reception Friday, May 6 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and be sure to head to the mezzanine level to visit with the Foundry Art Centre studio artists. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public. All three of these exhibitions will open Friday, May 6 and close Friday, June 17, 2016. Financial assistance for these exhibitions is provided by the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
