Margaret Harwell Art Museum in Poplar Bluff presents a Wood Invitational exhibiting an array of wood and techniques. The exhibited woodworks will be for sale. The museum is open from noon-4 pm Tuesday through Friday and 1-4 pm on Saturday and Sunday. The exhibits are all free and open to the public.
Curated by local wood carver James A. Pinkerton, a summation of the exhibit is that “Our goal for this invitational is to present a diverse array of wood and techniques.”
Some of the displayed works include: naturally intricate, textured wood-turned bowls of Dr. Richard Pritchard, a cardiologist from Kirksville, MO., who used burls from Buckeye and Western Maple trees; realistically rendered relief carvings from Ralph Strecker of Kentucky who drew upon religious and natural inspiration; highly detailed pyrography from William Tuchscherer from Wisconsin; whimsical architectural bark carving from Tom Gow of South Carolina; fantastical portrait carving on a Cypress knee from Carole Jean Boyd of Alabama; thoughtful portrait busts from Kenny Schiwitz of Kelso, MO.
