Stories of the Civil War often center around the battlefield, but what about the hospitals where the wounded were given care? This important aspect of the Civil War will be portrayed at the Anderson House. Candlelight Hospital Tours are sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the Missouri Medical Brigade and Elliot's Scouts.
The Anderson House served as a hospital for the Federal troops during the 1861 Battle of Lexington. Experience what life was like for the wounded in make-shift hospitals. The candlelight tours will feature recreated scenes of doctors performing surgeries, women tending the wounded, and soldiers planning their next move. Due to the nature of the event, it is not recommended for children under the age of 9.
A limited number of tickets are available for this event and must be purchased in advance. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Tickets will be available for purchase on Oct. 1. The first tour will begin at 5 p.m. and the last tour will begin at 9 p.m. with tours lasting approximately 30 minutes. For more information on purchasing tickets, call the historic site at 660-259-4654.
