Blunt on STL Arch
One of the most iconic images of any American city skyline is set to get a facelift – with the aid of $20 million from the federal government.
This week, the U.S. Department of transportation announced that it would award the grant to the CityArchRiver2015 Foundation, to help pay for improvements along Interstate 70 near the Gateway Arch in St. Louis.
While speaking to reporters Wednesday, Sen. Roy Blunt applauded the grant saying the improvements are needed.
“The Arch is 50 years old and every 50 years or so, you need to look at our national parks and our infrastructure and see if they are still doing what we had hoped they would do.”
St. Louis officials hope to finish the improvements by 2015, in time for the 50thanniversary of the Arch’s completion.
