King of the Road

If I Were King

OK, I'll start. It's a simple thing, really, but it bugs me. I see so many cars on the road with disabled turn signals. What's disturbing is that the inoperable turn signals are not so prevalent in old cars. It's the newer models that seem to be afflicted. These are nice cars, too, Navigators and Tahoes and Mercedes. The drivers are making turns, not realizing that the blinkers on these cars have been disabled. I know that the drivers are flipping the turn signal lever ... after all, it's really easy. And just because they have a cell phone in one hand, they still use the other to engage the signal. I know they do. So it must be a virus or a vast conspiracy to confuse me.

Even if drivers are using one hand for their crucial cell phone conversation and they're shaving or putting on makeup with the other, they're adroit at holding the steering wheel with their knees. As we all know, it takes very little effort—only a fraction of a second—to pop a turn signal lever with one knee. So in the interest of national security, I'm calling for a full-fledged investigation into this disabled turn signal threat. If, as I suspect, we find out that the folks behind this are fascist communist terrorists who are out to destroy America, then we can defeat this scourge and make our lives safer. It's the proper thing to do, whether you prefer turning left or right.

Along with disabled turn signals, it seems that people have forgotten the 10 second rule or their stopwatches have broke. I'm willing to believe in the 2nd, and call on Congress to immediately install stopwatches in all vehicles that synchronize with atomic clocks.
