Mapping Main Street
Just yesterday a long time Missouri Life reader and Missouri history buff, Bill Stine, stopped by our office and told me about an exciting project that was being hosted by National Public Radio's Weekend Edition. Bill was motivated by the project, got his camera out, and started shooting Main Street in Missouri. See his follow up email to me below.
Hi Greg,
Nice to visit you in your Missouri Life office in Boonville this afternoon.
Here is the web site that we discussed for a National Public Radio (Weekend Edition Saturday) sponsored web site to photograph or write about Main Streets across America: www.mappingmainstreet.org.
I started out with Jefferson City, but have been to photograph others. Today, I went to Main Street in Fayette. I uploaded them to the Mapping Main Street group on www.flickr.com. If you go to my photostream on Flickr you can see the captions I wrote under each photo.
Anyway, I've enjoyed the visits and the opportunity to show some Missouri photos of several citys and towns on that Mapping Main Street web site including: Boonville, Rolla, Prairie Home, Westphalia, Vienna, Centertown, California, Newburg, Lohman, Hartsburg, and Ashland. In each place, I learned something I didn't know.
You might find this interesting enough for your Missouri Life web site. There are plenty of other cities and towns worth an input that haven't been reached yet. Your readers might even want to get involved. I believe this goes on through the end of September.
Regards, Bill Stine in Jefferson City
