Enjoy a State Park Today
Elephant Rocks State Park
At the recent Governor's Conference on Tourism held in Branson, Governor Nixon bemoaned the dramatically falling attendance at Missouri's State Parks and Historic Sites. Over the past ten years, each year has seen a steady decline going from 18 million visits down to 14 million visits in 2008. And, there's is apparently no end in site of this decline in attendance at what could rightfully be considered one of our finest assets.
Governor Nixon encouraged all of those attending the conference on tourism to support and promote our parks as much as possible. We at Missouri Life have always done as the governor asked -- supported and promoted the state parks of Missouri. In fact, our April 2009 issue featured State Park Secrets on our cover.
Danita and I recently visited Elephant Rocks State Park. Sadly, I have to admit that was the first time we had ever visited this wonderful park. So keep in mind these wonderful places to visit and the next time you venture forth into our great state, make a side trip and visit a park.
It's actually even more interesting this time of year. Without the leaves on trees and bushes, you see even more than you can normally. Take a walk in a park. You'll be glad you did! Danita and I sure were.
