Meet Daniel Boone and his biographer
Our new issue contains a story on the Daniel Boone Home at Defiance and also on my friends Barney Combs and Bob Pecoraro. These two are walking reference books on Daniel Boone. Barney reenacts Boone, and Bob reenacts John Filson, the only Boone biographer who actually knew and spent time with Boone. This is a unique and totally entertaining portrayal of both Boone and the contrasting Filson, who would have been considered a gentleman of the time.
Not only do they know the stories that are documented as opposed to the legends, they have collected an amazing number of antiques from the same time period as Daniel Boone, and so they are walking museums, too.
While they portray Boone and Filson at many events, here is when you can catch them at the Historic Daniel Boone Home and Boonesfield Village. See our story in the August issue too.

Danita Allen Wood is editor-in-chief and co-owner of the magazine, along with her husband, Greg Wood. They bought and revived the magazine in 1999. Since then, it has won multiple awards from the International Regional Magazine Association, including Magazine of the Year in 2008. Danita will share her journeys around the state, some of the behind-the-scenes stories about making the magazine, and reflections on life in Missouri.
